In response to the financial strain that COVID-19 has placed on families and individuals, New Hanover County allocated $1.3 million in financial support for child care and housing assistance. Our goal is to help our residents in the short-term, so they can get back on their feet in the long-term.
With schools transitioning to remote learning, we understand the burden put on families to find safe and affordable child care options. Child care assistance was provided to New Hanover County households and families through participating licensed child care facilities. Housing assistance was provided as a one-time payment for households to help overcome economic setbacks directly caused by COVID-19 for housing deposits, first month’s rent, past due rent, past due mortgages, and late fees.
